Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)

Effective May 1, 2011, SCDOT adopted the 2009 edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) as its official traffic control manual. This manual is the guideline for SCDOT's policies and procedures on installing and maintaining signs, markings, and signals in South Carolina. The MUTCD may be viewed online at the FHWA Website.

SCDOT Supplement to the MUTCD

In accordance with the provisions of Section 56-5-920 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is authorized to adopt a manual of standards and specifications for a uniform system of traffic control devices for use upon highways and streets in this state. On May 1, 2011, SCDOT adopted the federal Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for this purpose.
