This the longest and best known scenic byway in South Carolina. It is 118 miles long. It is named Cherokee Foothills because it runs through the foothills found at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains which were the ancestral home of the Cherokees.
Starting in Cherokee County, it runs along SC 11 all the way through Spartanburg, Greenville, Pickens and Oconee Counties to the west. The majestic Blue Ridge Mountains become clearly visible to the west of the Town of Chesnee and they remain dominantly present until you have driven past the Town of West Union in Oconee County. This is a good scenic alternate to I-85.
