In 2007, Act 114 of the South Carolina Legislature created the Office of the Chief Internal Auditor to establish, implement, and maintain the exclusive internal audit function of all departmental activities. The Legislature transferred the function beginning July 1, 2016, pursuant to Act 275, to the South Carolina Office of the State Auditor.
A division of the South Carolina Office of the State Auditor, Internal Audit Services is an independent, objective assurance and consulting function designed to add value and improve the operations of the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). Internal Audit Services helps the SCDOT to achieve its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating the effectiveness of risk management, internal control, and governance processes and by advising on best practices.
To be recognized by the SCDOT Commission, management team, and staff, as well as South Carolina legislators and citizenry, as effective partners in the recognition, assessment, and management of risks affecting the pursuit and accomplishment of the SCDOT mission.
